چکیده

In this paper, the phenolics content and the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extracts prepared from the leaves of Globularia alypum L were evaluated. These extracts were obtained by two different extraction methods. The composition of polyphenols (198±0.52μg gallic acid equivalent/mg of dry mass) and tannins (30.65±0.11μg tannic acid equivalent/mg of dry mass) was higher in the ethanol extract obtained by soxhlet method, whereas, the macerated ethanolic extract contained high amounts of anthocyanins (35.10±0.23μg cyanidin equivalent/mg of dry mass) and flavonoids (19.26±0.22μg quercetin equivalent/mg of dry mass) which are strongly thermosensitive particles. The extracts were also subjected to a screening for their antioxidant activity using the DPPH assay. The free radical scavenging effect of the macerated ethanol extract (IC50 = 1.31 ± 0.17 mg/ml) was more important than quercetin used as positive control.

Global chemical composition and antioxidant and anti-tuberculosis activities of various extracts of Globularia alypum L. (Globulariaceae) leaves.

In this work, an evaluation of the biological activities of Globularia alypum L. extracts and their global chemical composition was realized. Extracts from G. alypum were obtained by two extraction methods. The composition of polyphenols (8.5-139.95 g gallic acid equivalent/Kg of dry mass), tannins (1.39-18.65 g catechin equivalent/Kg of dry mass), anthocyanins (8.17-70.69 mg cyanidin equivalen...

Phenolic Content and Biomolecule Oxidation Protective Activity of Globularia alypum Extracts

The protective activity of methanolic (Met E) and aqueous (Aq E) extracts of Globularia alypum L. (G. alypum) against DNA, lipid and protein oxidative damage was investigated. Moreover, the scavenging, chelating, and reducing power activities of the extracts were also evaluated. Phytochemical analysis was performed to determine phenolic compounds. Results showed that Met E and Aq E were rich in...

Changes in Ca, Fe, Mg, Mo, Na, and S content in a Mediterranean shrubland under warming and drought

[1] In an evergreen Mediterranean shrubland we conducted a 6-year field experiment simulating the warming and drought projected by general circulation models and ecophysiological models for the next decades: 20% reduction of soil moisture and 1 C of temperature increase. We tested whether warming and drought have effects on Ca, Fe, Mg, Mo, Na and S availability, concentrations and accumulation ...

Large delay in flowering in continental versus coastal populations of a Mediterranean shrub, Globularia alypum.

Globularia alypum is a perennial shrub typical of western Mediterranean thermophilous shrublands. Nine populations of G. alypum located in different localities of Catalonia (NE Spain) were surveyed for flowering phenology. Flower-head buds were present in all the populations in July. Flowering time in the area spans from the late summer-early autumn to the next spring depending on the populatio...

In-vitro Evaluation of Protective Effects on DNA Damage and Antioxidative Activities of Ilex Spinigera Loes. Extracts

Ilex spinigera (Aquifoliaceae) plant is an evergreen tree or shrub with thick glossy dark green leaves and red fruits. This plant has medicinal properties and has been used traditionally in northern Iran for malaria treatment. The aim of this work is to evaluate the antioxidative activities and the inhibitory effect of I.spinigera on the oxidation of DNA. We have found no reports about the popu...
